Website Changes

Long awaited changes are being made to the SC MLTEI website. There is a new, better way of getting around and a new system is being used to facilitate managing the website.

We have worked to retain the good information gathered by our Content Quality Networks. Much has changed since we inaugurated the website in 2005: Pact became Pass; NMSA became AMLE; NCATE became CAEP, state standards became common core standards; and syllabi became out of date. As a result, many links are broken and as we try to remove them, we want to replace them with new and current thinking and ways of doing things.

We need your help in this endeavor. If our website is to stay current, we have to work to keep it that way. Under the Contact Us tab, there is an online form that can be submitted. Or you can contact us directly with the Contact Info provided.

Project Overview

The initial grant entitled "Middle Level Teacher Education Initiative" (MLTEI) was awarded late in the 2001-2002 fiscal year by the Education Oversight Committee (EOC) to the South Carolina Middle School Association (SCMSA).

A second grant was awarded in December 2002 to continue work on the development and implementation of quality middle grades teacher training programs by the EOC. In 2007, SCMSA was awarded a continuing grant to promote quality middle level teacher preparation programs in South Carolina.

Upcoming Meeting

The 2012 Professors of Middle Level Education Symposium will be in Memphis, TN on May14 -16. The symposium will be hosted at For the Kingdom retreat and conference center. The format for this symposium is more relaxed than the typical events held in the past. The wooded setting is perfect for renewing and recharging. The symposium will allow us the opportunity to continue and expand the work begun at the 2011 Legacy Symposium as well as plan for the future. While we hope that the majority of participants will stay with us at the symposium site, there are several hotels 20 minutes away or less (a sampling is attached).
